What we need to know
Four things, and only the first two are essential. Send them and you get a firm price rather than a range, usually within the hour.
- The tyre size. Three numbers on the sidewall — 205/55 R16. Or the registration and we will look it up.
- Where the vehicle is. A postcode is enough. Tell us if it is a work car park rather than a driveway so we know about access.
- How many wheels. Four is quicker per wheel than one, and it changes the price.
- Whether it has been driven flat. This one matters more than people expect — see below.
If it has been driven on a flat
Say so when you ring. A tyre run flat for even a mile is usually destroyed on the inside where you cannot see it, and the sidewall will have been pinched against the rim.
It changes a £35 repair into a replacement, and occasionally it means the wheel needs checking too. We would far rather tell you that on the phone than arrive, inspect it, and give you worse news on your own driveway.
If you are on a motorway or a fast road: do not wait for us. Get behind the barrier and ring the emergency services or your recovery provider first. We will fit the tyre once the vehicle is somewhere safe, and we will say the same thing on the phone.
Fleet and trade accounts
Above three or four vehicles it stops being a series of call-outs and becomes a schedule. We come to the yard, work through what is due, and invoice monthly on agreed terms.
Email rather than ring for this one — it needs a vehicle list and it is easier in writing. We will come back with per-vehicle pricing and a standing slot.
Getting hold of us
What do you need from me to quote?
The tyre size off the sidewall, or the registration, and the postcode the vehicle is at. That is enough for a fitted price on almost every vehicle.
How quickly can you get to me?
Usually inside the hour across Northampton, a little longer further out. We give you a two-hour window and ring when the van sets off, so you are not waiting in.
Can I book for a specific time?
Yes, and most people do. Same-day slots go quickly in winter; booking the night before almost always gets you the window you want.
Is somebody there out of hours?
The phone diverts to whoever is on call until 20:00 Monday to Saturday and 16:00 on Sunday. Outside that, leave a message and it is picked up first thing.
Do you cover my postcode?
If you are inside the six towns listed we almost certainly do. Ring and ask rather than assuming — we go further than the map suggests for fleet work.
Can I pay by card at the kerb?
Yes. Card or bank transfer on completion. No deposit, and nothing is taken before the job is done.
